Thursday April, 5 2012 @ 16:15:11 Nature: Woods Fire Address: 1 - 26310 Portside Ln., Millsboro, DE 19966 Thursday April, 5 2012 @ 17:04:49 Nature: Field Fire Address: 33000 - 33541 Long Neck Rd Millsboro, DE 19966 On Thursday, April 5th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a woods fire on Portside Lane in the Rehoboth Shores development off of Long Neck Road. It was reported that heavy black smoke was clearly visible miles prior to the incident location. The nature and severity of the incident was immediately identified and additional assistance was requested from mutual aid companies including but not limited to: Millsboro (83), Lewes (82), Rehoboth Beach (86), Delaware Department of Agriculture (Forestry Division), Georgetown (77), Roxana (90) Rehab Unit, Dagsboro (73), Milton (85), and many other stand-by and cover agency assignments. Indian River quickly identified that multiple residential manufactured homes would be negatively impacted and requested mutual aid assistance via the Sussex County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) to mitigate these exposure concerns as well. This requested assistance included alerts for brush truck assignments, engine pumper assignments, tanker assist assignments, firefighter rehab. assignments, utility vehicle (Polaris, Gator, etc.) assignments, and many other fire suppression and exposure concern tasks. The National Weather Service has issued an “Increased Fire Weather Threat” for today’s date (04-05-2012) and additional information may be obtained via the identified link: http://www.wgmd.com/?p=52867 “For the fourth consecutive day, the National Weather Service says there’s an increased fie weather threat today for the Delaware beaches, inland Sussex, Kent and New Castle counties. Forecasters say low afternoon relative humidity levels and dry fuels will create enhanced weather concerns. Winds, however, are not expected to reach or exceed 20-miles-per-hour for any significant length of time this afternoon.” The Delaware State Fire Police have provided traffic control assistance for the duration of the incident. The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office has been requested to respond to the scene and has commenced with an investigative process. The fire, which broke out around 4:15, is reported on Portside Lane in the area of Rehoboth Shores. Crews are also responding to a brush fire on Long Neck Road, just prior to Rehoboth Shores.
