Nature: Annual Election of Officers Yields Change of Fire Line Command

In December, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company conducted its annual election of officers for both the administrative operations and the fire line operations. These annual elections resulted in the following positions:

Administrative Operations:
 

• President – Patrick C. Miller (re-elected to position)

• Vice President – Brian P. Hubbs (newly elected to position)

• Secretary – Michael H. Eisenhauer (newly elected to position)

• Assistant Secretary – Tyler N. Wright (newly elected to position)

• Treasurer – Henry J. Gonnelli, Jr. (re-elected to position)

• Assistant Treasurer – John Rossiter (newly elected to position)

Fire Line Operations:

• Chief – Steven C. Deery, Jr. (elected to position)

• Deputy Chief – Mario A. Street (newly elected to position)

• First Assistant Chief – Ryan M. Mock (elected to position)

• Second Assistant Chief – Hayden F. Klingler (newly elected to position)

• Chief Engineer – James R. Wagner (re-elected to position)

• Fire Recorder – John W. Swithenbank, III (re-elected to position)

President Patrick Miller hails from the Oak Orchard community and has served as President for 15 terms of office and was previously Secretary, DVFA Alternate, DVFA Delegate, Fire Police Officer, Engineer, and Safety Officer. Patrick has served on the Board of Directors, BY-LAWS, Computer, Pension, Truck Acquisition, Vessel, and Accident Investigation & Evaluation committees. He also has been awarded the Fireman of the Year on two previous occasions and holds a Life Member status. Patrick joined the Indian River VFC in July, 1993. Vice President Brian P. Hubbs hails from the Long Neck community and has served as Deputy Chief, 1st Assistant Chief, 2nd Assistant Chief, Captain, and Assistant Treasurer. Brian has served on the Grant and other Special Investigative committees. Brian joined the Indian River VFC in July, 1997. Secretary Michael Eisenhauer hails from the Pot Nets Bayside Community and is serving in his inaugural year. Michael has previously served as Assistant Secretary as well as being on the Grant Writing and the Finance Oversight Committee. Michael joined the Indian River VFC in February, 2009. Assistant Secretary Tyler N. Wright hails from the Warwick community. Tyler holds a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration from the University of Delaware and has been awarded the IRVFC President’s Award for volunteerism. Treasurer Henry J. Gonnelli, Jr. hails from the Pot Nets Bayside community. Hank has previously served as Board of Director, Treasurer, Fire Police Captain, and Fire Police Officer as well as serving on the Banquet and Entertainment committees. Chief Steven Deery hails for the Oak Orchard-Riverdale communities and has served as Chief for the past 7 terms of office and was previously Deputy Chief, 1st Assistant Chief, 2nd Assistant Chief, Captain, Board of Director, Engineer, DVFA Delegate, and DVFA Alternate Delegate. He has served on the Ways & Means, Entertainment, Vessel Committee, Apparatus Acquisition, and Accident Investigation & Evaluation committees. Steven has been awarded the Fireman of the Year Award Twice as well as being awarded a Life Member status. Chief Deery currently serves at the Immediate Past President of the Sussex County Fire Chiefs Association and a Vice President of the Sussex County Firefighters Association. Deputy Chief Mario A. Street hails from the Warwick community and has previously served as Second Assistant Chief, Rescue Captain, Engineer, and Lieutenant. First Assistant Chief Ryan Mock hails from the River Breeze community and has previously served as Board of Director, Chief, First Assistant Chief, Second Assistant Chief, and Lieutenant and has been awarded the Fireman of the Year, as well as the Henry C. Second Assistant Chief Hayden F. Klingler hails from the Riverdale community and has previously served as 1st Assistant Chief, 2nd Assistant Chief, Captain, Engineer, and Ladder Captain. Hayden serves on the Entertainment, Building, Vessel, Accident Investigation& Evaluation, Fire Prevention, Parade, and Truck Committee. Hayden has been awarded the Indian River VFC Firefighter of the Year as well as Hurst – Jaws of Life – Green Cross Award. Chief Engineer Jim Wagner hails from the Woodlyn Estates community and has served ten terms of office and has previously served as Assistant Chief Engineer and DVFA Delegate. He also served on the Board of Directors, Entertainment, Membership Committee, Vessel Committee, Truck Acquisition, and Accident Investigation & Evaluation committees. He also has been awarded the Henry C. Warrington Award as well as a Life Membership status. Jim joined the Indian River VFC in July, 2000. Fire Recorder John W. Swithenbank, III hails from the Oak Orchard community and has served 30 terms as Fire Recorder (15 terms consequently since 1999) and previously served as Board of Director, President, Vice President, Assistant Treasurer, Engineer, and 2nd Assistant Chief. John has served on the numerous committees over the years. He also has been awarded the Henry C. Warrington Award, President Emeritus status and a Life Membership.
