In the past, Hayden has held the positions of Chief, 1st Assistant Chief, 2nd Assistant Chief, Ladder Captain, and DVFA Alternate Delegate. Hayden serves on the Budget, By-Laws, Accident Investigation & Evaluation, Truck Acquisition, and Junior Membership committees. Hayden also has been awarded the Sussex County Fire Chiefs Association President, Hurst - Jaws of Life - Green Cross , IR Incident Top Responder, Hurst - Jaws of Life - Green Cross , IR Incident Top Responder, IR Incident Top Responder, and IR Firefighter of the Year awards. Hayden joined the Delaware Fire School in 1968 via the Holloway Terrace Fire Company and served ten (10) before joining the Christiana Fire Company in 1978 serving twenty-seven (27) years before joining the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company in 2005. Hayden has been an active part of the Delaware Fire Service since joining Holloway Terrace and was recognized for 50 years of services as well as being awarded Life Memberships in Holloway Terrace and Christiana fire companies. During Hayden’s tenure at Indian River, he has served in the following positions: Engineer, DVFA Delegate, DVFA Alternate, Ladder Captain, Second Assistant Chief (2 years), First Assistant Chief (3 years), Chief (5 years) and Board of Director before serving as Chief Engineer. Hayden has also served on various committee which include but not limited to: Budget, BY-LAWS, Accident Investigation and Evaluation, Truck Acquisition, and Junior Membership. Hayden served with the Sussex County Fire Chiefs Association and was Second Vice President, First Vice President and President. Hayden has also been recognized life saving extrication with the Jaws of Life (Hurst Green Cross Recognition), Top Incident Responder for many years and Indian River’s Firefighter of the Year.
