Chief Steven C. Deery, Jr. Recognized for Community Service & 25 Years of Service with Indian River

The Indian River Volunteer Fire Company is pleased to announce that Steven C. Deery, Jr. was recognized for the various leadership positions assumed while serving the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company and the volunteer fire service within Sussex County.

Steven joined the volunteer fire service with the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company in January, 1990 as a probationary firefighter and has devoted himself and countless hours to helping the community and residents of Oak Orchard, Riverdale, Long Neck and surrounding vicinities.

Over the years, Steven has served Indian River in the following positions: (1) Fire Line Operations –Chief, Deputy Chief, First Assistant Chief, Second Assistant Chief, Third Assistant Chief, Fire Captain and Training Officer; (2) Administrative Life Operations – Board of Director; and (3) Other Company Positions – Delegate & Alternate to the Delaware Volunteer Firefighter’s Association, Chairperson of the BY-LAWS, Membership, Fire Prevention and Open House committees.

Steven has also served through the leadership chairs and ultimately President of the Sussex County Fire Chief’s Association as well as the President of the Sussex County Volunteer Firefighter’s Association.

Steven’s terms of offices are:

• President – Sussex County Fire Chief’s Association – 2011-2012

• Chief – Indian River Volunteer Fire Co., Inc. – 2006-2012 and 2014; and

• President – Sussex County Volunteer Firefighter’s Association – 2014-2015.
