Nature: Structure Fire

Address: 32087 Holly Lake Rd , 19966

Cross Streets: Phillips Branch Rd/John J Williams Hwy

On Monday afternoon, November 2nd, the Indian River (80), Lewes (82) and Rehoboth Beach (86) fire companies were alerted for a trailer fire (RV structure) on Holly Lake Road in the Holly Lake Campsite development.  Additional emergency alerts included the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad and the Sussex County Paramedics.  It was reported to be located on campsite lot #327 and smoke was coming from the RV.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine 80 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.  The Delaware State Fire Marshal (FM16) was in the immediate area and responded directly to the incident location.

Emergency response crew assignments included an immediate exterior evaluation locating a smoking and smoldering electrical outlet within the water heater compartment of the RV trailer. Crews worked quickly to fully extinguish the concern and downgraded the incident response to just Indian River units. All other emergency response entities were authorized to return to their respective quarters.

It appears that the electrical outlet and plug was beginning to smoke, melt and burn when a passerby identified the smoking condition; thereby, saving the RV.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control for the duration of the incident.

The Delaware State Fire Marshal assisted with the incident before departing.
