Nature: Travel Advisory - Traffic light at Route 24, Legion Road in Millsboro Activated

The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) has activated the new traffic light on John J. Williams Highway and Legion Road effective Thursday, October 22, 2026.

DELDOT initiated the project after a traffic study completed in October 2025 found the intersection needed signalizing to improve safety. The study reviewed crash data, traffic volumes, and nearby residential growth. Between May 2020 and April 2025, the intersection recorded 25 accidents — including rear-end, angle, deer, bicycle, and other crashes.

While earlier DelDOT assessments had not supported a light, Rep. Jeff Hilovsky (R-Long Neck) and local residents, including American Legion Post 28 officials, pushed for a re-evaluation due to new housing developments such as the 656-home Peninsula Lakes subdivision and the proposed 181-home Tide Pines project. A July 2025 public meeting drew about 150 people, many citing safety concerns from late-night events and increasing traffic.
