Nature: Structure Fire – Residential – Broadwater Road – Pot Nets Bayside

Location: 34486 Broad Water Rd , 19966

On Monday, July 13th, the Indian River (80), Millsboro (83) and Lewes (82) fire companies were alerted for a residential structure fire on Broadwater Road in the Pot Nets Bayside development off Long Neck Road.  Additional emergency alerts included the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad and the Sussex County Paramedics.  It was reported to be residential structure fire in a manufactured home structure.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine 80 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignments included an initial exterior evaluation with nothing evident and then an interior evaluation where a smoke condition was clearly evident. Other tasks included an extensive evaluation to identify the source, the utility services to the structure were shut-off and all areas were evaluated.  Positive pressure ventilation was utilized to vacate the smoke conditions inside the structure.

It appears that an electrical burning condition was prevalent within the structure.  All areas of the structure were evaluated and tested for heat with nothing being found.  The occupants were apprised to retain the services of an electrician and not to re-establish any utilities to the structure until a professional evaluation was completed.  The smoke condition was cleared and no conditions were present at the time of departure.

On-scene assistance was provided via Millsboro and Lewes fire companies while Millsboro also provided a stand-by cover up assignment at the Long Neck station.

The Delaware State Fire Police assisted with traffic control and scene access for the duration of the incident.

All emergency response units were authorized to return to the respective quarters.
