Nature: Citizen Assist Request – Animal Rescue

Location: Riverside Apartments

On Sunday, July 12^th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was requested to offer assistance with an animal rescue mission at the Riverside Apartment Complex off Oak Orchard Road.  It was identified that approximately six (6) ducklings fell through a stormwater management grate and were caught in the drainage reservoir within the stormwater management retention pond.

Incident report units included Chief 80 and Captain 80 from the Oak Orchard facility.

After evaluation, a corrective action was deployed to don a pair of water rescue waiters and access the area to safely rescue the ducklings from a stormwater drainage culvert which included the following:

1. Secure the Area

2. Open the Access

3. Lure Scared Ducklings

4. Reunite the Family

Once all ducklings were secured and placed safely in an area near the mother, she heard their peeps and lead them to a safe body of water.

After the extrication and reunion was completed, all personnel returned to their respective facilities.
