Nature: Vehicle Accident w/Medics

Location: Indian Mission Rd and K C Lane, 19966

On Wednesday afternoon, July 1st, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident involving a utility pole and partial ejection.  Additional emergency response alerts included the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad, the Sussex County Paramedics and the Delaware State Fire Police.  It was reported that a white mini-van hit a utility pole with electric lines on the vehicle and a person was partially ejected.  Utility pole broken and wires down.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Squad 80 from the Long Neck facility, Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Utility 80-11 and Tanker 80 responded from the previous emergency incident in the Long Neck area.

Emergency response crew assignments included vehicle stabilization where possible, patient stabilization, traffic control with closure of Indian Mission Road, notification of the utility service provider and overall incident mitigation efforts.

It appears that a white mini-van left the roadway for an unknown reason, striking and breaking a utility pole, and landing on top of the broken utility pole with the remainder of the utility pole atop of the mini-van.  It was reported that the occupant was partially ejected.  One person was transported for additional observations.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control for the duration of the incident with the closure of Indian Mission Road.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.
