Nature: Vehicle Accident w/Entrapment
Location: 26205 John J Williams Hwy, 19966
On Tuesday afternoon, June 30th, the Indian River (80) and Lewes (82) fire departments were alerted for a vehicle accident with entrapment on John J. Williams Highway in the area near the entrance to Harris Teeter. Additional emergency alerts included the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad, the Millsboro EMS, the Sussex County Paramedics, and the Delaware State Police – Aviation Unit – Trooper 2. It was reported to be a vehicle accident updated to entrapment.
Emergency response units from Indian River were returning from an earlier dispatched emergency incident and responded directly to the incident location. These units were Rescue 80, Squad 80 and Utility 80-8 from the Long Neck area.
Emergency response crew assignments included patient stabilization, vehicle stabilization, fluid and debris recovery, traffic control, preparation for vehicle extrication, vehicle extrication removal of doors and b-post, and incident mitigation efforts.
It appears that a silver Toyota Corolla and silver Subaru Forester and possibly a black Ford Fusion were involved in the collision. The Subaru and Toyota suffered significant damage with the Toyota having the entrapment. All patients were transported to nearby medical facilities for additional observation. The aviation unit was cancelled and not utilized as it was hovering and preparing for landing nearby.
The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control for the duration of the incident.
The Delaware State Police are investigating.
