Nature: Automatic Crash Notification

On Tuesday evening, March 10th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company and Mid Sussex Rescue Squad were alerted for an automatic crash notification on Plaza Drive off John J. Williams Highway. This incident was reported based upon an iPhone activation.

Emergency response apparatus from Indian River included Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine 80 from the Long Neck station. 

Emergency response crews responded to the area and did identify an actual iPhone in the roadway.  All other emergency response apparatus were cancelled and returned to their respective stations.

After evaluation, the ambulance company officer was able to retrieve the device and properly notified the emergency operations center of the disposition of the incident by making contact with the Delaware State Police for relinquishment of the communication device.
