Nature: Automatic Fire Alarm – Commercial Structure

Location: 33585 Windswept Dr., The Peninsula, DE 19966

On Wednesday evening, January 28^th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for an automatic fire alarm sounding at a multi-residential apartment building on Windswept Drive in the Peninsula development off Bay Road.  It was reported to be an automatic fire alarm sounding.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Tower 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine 80 from the Long Neck facility.

Emergency response crew assignments included an exterior evaluation and initial interior evaluation discussing with the building occupants at the residential structure.

It was determined that a frozen fire sprinkler pipe had burst.  The fire suppression system was drained and the building was placed on fire watch protocol.  There was an inability to consult with the management company due to unavailable and not answering the specific contact numbers.  The occupants were advised to consult with their management firm and make sure the sprinkler repair companies are notified for immediate repairs.

All emergency response units were authorized to return to their respective stations.
