Nature: Odor Investigation
Location: 32613 Seaview Loop Long Neck Shores, DE 19966
On Friday morning, January 23rd, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for an odor investigation on Seaview Loop in the Long Neck Shores development off Bay Farm Road. It was reported to be a burning odor of plastic or rubber substance.
Emergency response units from Indian River included Tower 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine 80 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.
Emergency response crew assignments included an initial 360 exterior evaluation as well as an interior evaluation to ascertain the source of the odor.
Crews performed an extensive interior evaluation and could detect the odor but not the source. An additional evaluation was initiated in the crawl space of the residential structure which yielded stronger smells and subsequently identified the source associated with an electrical disconnect appliance for the HVAC units which was melting. The systems were shut off at the electrical panel box.
The occupants were advised to obtain the services of HVAC and electrical personnel before reenergizing the HVAC system.
The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control at the residential development entrance.
All emergency response units were authorized to return to their respective stations.
