STATE REP. RUTH BRIGGS KING WILL HOLD A PUBLIC FORUM ON OCTOBER 29TH TO PROVIDE A PROGRESS REPORT ON THE STATE WORK BEING DONE TO ADDRESS FLOODING PROBLEMS IN THE OAK ORCHARD AREA

State Representative Ruth Briggs King (Georgetown/Long Neck) is holding a public forum later this month to discuss efforts that have been made at the state level over the past couple of years to address flooding and drainage problems in the Oak Orchard area.

The meeting will be held on:

Date:  Thursday, October 29, 2015

Time:  6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.

Location:  Indian River Volunteer Fire Company (32628 Oak Orchard Road, Millsboro).

Officials with DNREC and DelDOT are expected to be on hand to answer residents’ questions and to listen to any of their concerns as they relate to flooding issues in the Oak Orchard area.

A similar public forum was held by Rep. Briggs King two years ago to announce that state funding had been dedicated to help find solutions to the ongoing flooding problems in the area. Along with Senators Gerald Hocker and Brian Pettyjohn, Rep. Briggs King was able to secure state funding in the Fiscal Year 2014 Bond Bill, which was used to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the problems related to improper drainage, often the result of tidal and storm-related flooding. The purpose of the study was to review the history of drainage/flooding in the area, seek public input, identify solutions, prioritize them and develop conceptual designs with cost estimates for the high-priority solutions.

Over the past two years, DNREC, along with a consultant, has been making significant strides in addressing the flooding problems in Oak Orchard. The meeting on October 29th will allow DNREC and other invited guests to provide more specific information about the solutions that have been implemented, as well as answer residents’ questions as they relate to this issue.

Your attendance is welcome.
