Nature: Structure Fire

Location: 24232 Waters Edge Trail, Millsboro, DE 19966

On Saturday afternoon, March 30th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was initially alerted for an outside fire that had gotten out of control.  While enroute to the incident location, the Sussex County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) advised the responding brush unit that the fire has spread into a nearby garage and upgraded the incident alert to a structure fire.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Brush #80-0 and Engine #80-3 from the Long Neck facility, Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and the Delaware State Fire Police. Emergency response was limited to just Indian River and not any mutual aid companies at the discretion of the officer in charge.

It appears that the property was hosting a control burn or burn barrel that had gotten out of control and spread to a nearby storage garage.

Emergency response crews quickly initiated a fire suppression attack with a booster line and a 1¾” line addressing the structure attempting to minimize as much damage as possible.  Indian River’s responding engines were utilized for water and manpower resources.
