Nature: Structure Fire

Location: Inside

26549 Driftwood Dr., Millsboro, DE 19966

On Saturday evening, April 7th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for an odor investigation on Driftwood Drive in the Pot Nets Coveside development off of Long Neck Road.  The incident and box alarm was then upgraded to a working structure fire which included the Millsboro (83) and Lewes (82) fire departments as well as the Sussex County Paramedics and the local emergency medical responders being alerted for assistance as well.

Emergency response apparatus from Indian River included Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard facility, Command 80, Engines #80-3 and #80-1 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignments included initial fire suppression and evaluation to identify the source of the incident as well as ventilation of the residential structure.  Various hand tools, ventilation fans, and a fire suppression attack line were utilized.

It appears that a hot plate was left on and unattended in one the rooms of the manufactured home which caused a small fire that was self-extinguished because the door to the room was closed.

The Delaware State Fire Marshall is investigating.
