Nature: Structure Fire

Location: 35706 East Atlantic Circle, Rehoboth Beach, De

On Sunday morning, February 26th, the Indian River (80) and Lewes (82) fire departments were alerted to assist Rehoboth Beach (86) with a residential appartment building structure fire on East Atlantic Circle behind Wawa off of Coastal Highway. It was original reported as an electrical incident and upgraded upon arrival of Rehoboth’s Incident Commander. Additional neighboring fire companies were alerted to provide standby cover up assignments where necessary.

Emergency response units from Indian River include Tanker 80 and Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-3 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignments included assistance with fire suppression assignments, manpower pool, and overhaul and recovery activities.

It appears that a heavy smoke condition existed within the walls and attic area which required extensive investigative activities including roof ventilation activities. Upon suppression of these activities, the fire company resources were requested to assist with salvage, overhaul and recovery.

The Delaware State Fire Police services were utilized to perform traffic control and access services.

The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.
