Nature: Vehicle Accident

Location: E/O Intersection John J. Williams Hwy & Rosedale Road, Millsboro, DE 19966

On Wednesday, July 8th the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident on John J. Williams Highway east of the Rosedale Road intersection. It was reported to be a single vehicle off the roadway and striking a utility pole. The utility pole is severed with wires on the vehicle and fire reported within the tops of nearby trees. The driver of the vehicle remained in the vehicle pending arrival of the utility company.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility.

Emergency response crew assignments included traffic control for the duration of the incident with John J. Williams Highway being closed and traffic detoured; scene mitigation pending arrival of Delmarva Power to mitigate the live wire issues on the impacted vehicles.

It appears that a Ford pick-up was traveling eastbound on John J. Williams Highway, west of Rosedale Road, and reportedly swerved to miss a deer, running off of the roadway, striking a utility pole and directional signage. The utility pole was severed with live wires landing on the vehicle and some minor electrical outrages may have been experienced.

The occupant of the vehicle refused additional medical observations.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.
