Nature: Mutual Aid – Service Call – Lifting Assistance

Address:  Windswept Drive – The Peninsula

On Wednesday morning, October 28th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a mutual aid – service call assistance incident on Windswept Drive in the Peninsula development off Bay Farm Road.  The incident was the result of the power outrage during the previous evening which rendered the multi-residential complex's elevator inoperable.

Apparatus response from Indian River included Utility 80-8 and Chief 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Utility 80-11 from the Long Neck facility.

Incident responders were requested to assist a wheel chair person that needed to vacate the residential complex for travel arrangements and the entire complex elevator was inoperable.  The wheel chair was a motorized unit that was of significant weight and could not traverse the stairways.

The person was removed via stair chair to awaiting vehicle and the motorized cart was carried down the stairway to the awaiting vehicle.

After the assignment was completed, all personnel were able to return to their designated stations.
