Nature: Automatic Crash Notification-Upgraded Vehicle Accident with Entrapment
Location: 34081 Long Neck Rd , 19966
Early Saturday morning, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company and Mid Sussex Rescue Squad was alerted for an automatic crash notification on Long Neck Road. This crash notification was transmitted from a Toyota and upgraded to a vehicle accident with entrapment upon arrived of emergency response personnel. Additional emergency alerts included the Sussex County Paramedics and the Lewes Fire Department for rescue assist assignment.
Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Utility 80-11 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.
Emergency response crew assignments included vehicle stabilization, patient stabilization, preparation for extrication measures, vehicle extrication (door pop), traffic control, fluid and debris recovery and overall incident mitigation.
It appears that an automatic crash notification was received via the Sussex County Emergency Operation Center for a possible incident on Long Neck Road. The incident was upgraded to a head-on accident on the sharp curve on Long Neck Road with occupant entrapment in one vehicle. A gray Honda Accord sedan and a black Toyota Camry sedan collided head-on causing injury and damage to both vehicles. Both occupants were transportation to nearby medical facilities for additional observations.
The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated the complete closure of Long Neck Road for the duration of the incident.
The Delaware State Police are investigating.
