Story

Tuesday, August 18th is National Volunteer Firefighters Day, and we would like to celebrate the men and women who answer the call not because they have to, but because they choose to serve.

At the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company, our members come from different backgrounds, have different jobs, families, schedules, and reasons for joining. But they all have one thing in common:

  • A commitment to their community.

For more than 70 years, Station 80 has been here for the communities we call home. From fire suppression and prevention to vehicle and vessel incidents, rescues, flooding, severe weather and countless other calls for service, our volunteers give their time, training and energy to help protect their neighbors when they need it most.

And volunteering isn't just about responding to an alarm.

  • It's about training.

  • It's about teamwork.

  • It's about helping at events.

  • It's about maintaining equipment and apparatus.

  • It's about supporting the firehouse and the people inside it.

  • It's about building friendships and becoming part of something bigger than yourself.

And here's the thing: Station 80 needs YOU.

  • You don't have to be a lifelong firefighter.

  • You don't have to know how to fight a fire.

  • You don't have to have all the answers.

We'll help you learn.

Indian River Volunteer Fire Company offers opportunities for Active, Junior and Regular members, meaning there are different ways to become involved depending on your age, interests and ability.

  • Maybe you've always wanted to try it.

  • Maybe you've thought about volunteering but never knew where to start.

  • Maybe you've got a teenager who wants to learn, serve and be part of a team.

This could be your sign.

On National Volunteer Firefighters Day, we want to say THANK YOU to every member who has ever given their time to Station 80 and to the families, friends and employers who support them along the way.

  • Your time matters.

  • Your service matters.

  • You matter.

Station 80 is stronger because of the people who choose to serve.

Could you be one of them?
