FIREFIGHTER FRIDAY: The Heart Behind the Helmet recognizes Greg Ryan
This week, we're proud to feature another dedicated member of Station 80:

?? Why he joined:
“It just sounded exciting and was a good way to help my community.”
?? What he enjoys most:
“Helping people.”
?? What people might not realize:
“Not all roles require active firefighting while still helping your neighbors.”
?? Most memorable call:
Responding to a fatal bus accident in New Jersey more than 45 years ago—a call that has remained with him throughout his years of service.
?? Outside the firehouse:
Greg operates a small side business and also volunteers his time helping the local Lions Club transport medical equipment for those in need.
?? Off-duty:
He enjoys staying busy with his business and spending time around the local community.
?? Favorite local spots:
Local diners, Texas Roadhouse, Wayback Burgers, and grabbing coffee at Wawa.
? Favorite sports team:
New York Mets

• First job: Locker attendant at the local YMCA

“It’s rewarding.”
Throughout his years with the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company, Greg has been an important part of our Fire Prevention efforts, helping educate the public and promote safety throughout our community. He has also played an active role in numerous fundraising efforts and previously served as a Fire Police Officer. Greg's willingness to serve in whatever capacity is needed reflects the true spirit of volunteerism and demonstrates that every role within the fire company contributes to protecting and strengthening our community.
