FIREFIGHTER FRIDAY: The Heart Behind the Helmet Recognizes Kyle Kilgo

?? Why he joined:

“A love for community, a passion for service and helping others, protecting those in need, setting an example for my loved ones, and being part of something greater than myself.”

??‍?? Inspired by:

His parents, who instilled in him a strong sense of duty and service to others.

?? What he enjoys most:

“Being a part of a solution. Being a light to the darkness.”

?? What people might not realize:

“When there is a question about what type of emergency response is needed, firefighters are almost always one of the calls made. Fighting fires is a major part of the job, but there are so many other emergencies we respond to that many people don't realize.”

?? Most memorable call:

Responding to help an unconscious elderly individual by making entry into the home and providing care until EMS arrived on scene.

?? Outside the firehouse:

Kyle holds a Bachelor's degree in Business with a minor in Finance. His professional background is in Investment Banking, and today he works as a Realtor while also owning an odd-job business and a small party catering business.

?? Off-duty:

He enjoys coaching, hunting, and spending quality time with his family.

• First job: Dairy Queen at just 13 years old

“It makes me feel closer to the community. It allows me to do my part for the collective as an able-bodied person and truly be part of something bigger than myself.”

?? Why volunteer?

“I believe volunteering is a social responsibility. If you're being called to volunteer in the fire service, go after it. Even if you've never done it before—you CAN do it!”

?? His advice:

“Never let the fear of striking out prevent you from stepping up to the plate.”

Kyle brings a servant's heart and a strong desire to make a difference to everything he does. Whether responding to emergencies, supporting community events, or lending a helping hand wherever it's needed, he exemplifies what it means to serve with compassion, dedication, and purpose. His willingness to answer the call and be a light for others makes him a valued member of the Station 80 family.
