FIREFIGHTER FRIDAY: The Heart Behind the Helmet recognizes John Baine
This week, we’re proud to feature another dedicated member of Station 80:
-
???? John Baine
-
?? Sussex County, Delaware
-
? Serving with volunteer fire services for more than 21 years with the Rheems (PA), Frankford (DE), and Indian River (DE) Fire Companies
?? Why he joined:
“I always wanted to be a firefighter!”
???? Inspired by:
His friends and buddies who were firefighters.
?? What he enjoys most:
“The love of the people within the fire service and loving what I do.”
?? What people might not realize:
“That with firefighting, you must be able to listen and follow instructions during high-stress situations.”
?? Most memorable call:
Responding to a fatal structure fire and later learning how close he was to those involved. It’s a call that has stayed with me and serves as a reminder of the impact firefighters carry long after an incident is over.
?? Outside the firehouse:
John works as a caretaker and transporter for local funeral homes and also assists with landscaping and vehicle detailing.
?? Off-duty:
He enjoys spending time with family and friends, working around the house, and landscaping projects.
?? Fun Facts:
• First job: Landscaper
• Favorite TV show: Walker, Texas Ranger
• Go-to station snack: Desserts made by the Auxiliary
• Favorite artist: Bruce Springsteen
?? Why it matters:
“Being able to give back to the people of the community.”
?? Why volunteer?
“Join, you will not regret it!”
?? His advice:
“The fire service is a wonderful organization and group of people that are always willing to help and provide assistance to those in need.”
John’s dedication to the fire service is a fundamental part of who he is. Throughout more than two decades of volunteer service, he has remained committed to helping others and supporting his community whenever called upon. His willingness to serve and his passion for giving back continue to make a positive impact both within the firehouse and throughout the community.
?? Thank you, John, for your years of dedication and service to the volunteer fire service and our community!
