Nature: Gas Leak – Residential
Location: 36 Sioux Dr Warwick Park, DE 19966
On Saturday evening, March 21st, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a gas leak at a residential location on Sioux Drive in the Warwick Park development. It was reported that the occupants could hear a gas leak on the garage side of the residential structure.
Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine 80 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.
Emergency response crew assignments included incident evaluation and mitigation. The residence was evacuated prior to arrival of emergency response personnel. The utility service provider was notified with an estimated arrival time greater than 1 hour.
Units located an underground propane tank that was leak around the stem area of the tank before the regulator. A fire suppression line was activated to assist with dispersing the lp gas to assist with dispersing the vapors, cooling the tank to prevent a BLEVE (Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapor Explosion), and diluting the gas to reduce its flammability. Units were able to stop / shut off the leak prior to arrival of the utility service provider. The occupants were so notified of the situation.
The Delaware State Fire Police assisted with traffic limitation for the duration of the incident.
