Nature: Automatic Crash Notification

On Saturday, March 7th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company and Mid Sussex Rescue Squad were alerted for an automatic crash notification on Waterfront Drive in the Stonewater Creek development off Indian Mission Road. This incident was reported based upon an iPhone activation.

Emergency response apparatus from Indian River were held at their stations because a fire company was in the immediate area and responded accordingly with not actual accident in the vicinity.

Emergency response crew responded to the area and did not identify any actual vehicle collision but found an iPhone in the middle of the roadway.  All other emergency response apparatus were cancelled and returned to their respective stations.

After evaluation, the fire company officer was able to retrieve the device and properly notified the emergency operations center of the disposition of the incident by making contact with the Delaware State Police for relinquishment of the communication device.
