Nature: Structure Fire - Commercial/Industrial building

On Friday morning, February 27^th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a structure fire within a commercial building on John J. Williams Highway.  It was reported to be a strong odor of a burnt plastics product.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Tower 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine 80 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crews completed an exterior 360 evaluation of the structure, verified that a complete evacuation was being coordinated, performed an extensive interior evaluation of the building facilities and HVAC units as well as attic access areas, etc., secured the shut off of the utilities, HVAC, washer and dryer units.

After evaluation, the services were restarted and could not replicate or reproduce the odor’s existence.  The facility was monitored and turned back over to the management for utilization.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control for the duration of the incident.
