Nature: Gas Leak (Natural and LP Gases) SECOND ALARM NOTIFICATION

Address: 28524 Ferndale Rd Victorias Landing, DE 19966

Cross Streets: Victorias Landing Rd/Devonshire Rd

On Sunday morning, February 15th, as the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was activating working an earlier residential structure fire, it was alerted and dispatched for a second alarm in the district for gas leak on Ferndale Road in the Victoria’s Landing development.

As with standard operating protocols, Indian River was provided a cover-up assignment from the Georgetown (77) and Millsboro (83) fire companies responded and mitigated this gas leak incident.

It was reported to be an odor of gas on the ground level floor of the multi-story, multi-residential complex.

Emergency response crews provided an exterior and interior evaluation and could not detect any odor of gas in or around the multi-residential structure.

The Indian River Volunteer Fire Company extends its appreciation to the Georgetown and Millsboro fire companies for their diligence and dedication during these assignments.

What is the purpose of a cover-up or stand-by assignment?

The purpose of a fire company cover-up assignment is to ensure that all necessary resources are present and ready to respond to a fire incident when the primary entity is actively engaged in incident. This assignment helps to maintain a coordinated and efficient response by ensuring that each company has the required equipment, personnel, and strategies in place to respond and mitigate alarms within a designated fire district. It also allows for the quick dispatch of additional resources when needed, such as when a second alarm is declared or when additional personnel are required to manage the fire situation.
