Nature: Automatic Crash Notification – Vehicle vs. Deer Incident

Location: 26373 John J Williams Hwy Millsboro, DE 19966

On Saturday, November 8^th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for an automatic crash notification on John J. Williams Highway between Legion Road and Bay Farm Road.  It was reported to possibly involve a 2023 Kia Nero type vehicle.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 and the Delaware State Fire Police.

The Delaware State Police reported this incident to be a property damage incident involving a deer and did not need any fire company or ambulance type response.

All response apparatus were cancelled prior to arrival at the incident location.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.

Deer vs Car Safety Message

• Be aware of deer activity: Deer are most active during dawn and dusk, especially during the breeding season.
• Use high beams: When driving during peak movement times, use your high beams to enhance visibility and spot deer more easily. 

   
• Slow down: Deer are pack animals and often travel together. If you see one deer, there's a good chance more are nearby. 

   
• Watch for signs: Look for deer crossing signs and wooded areas where deer are likely to travel. 

   
• Stay alert: Deer can appear suddenly and without warning, so keep an eye out for them.
