Nature: Vehicle Accident w/Entrapment

On Friday November 7th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company and Millsboro EMS were alerted for a vehicle accident on John J. Williams Highway and Layton Davis Road.  Additional emergency alerts included the Sussex County Paramedics and a rescue assist compliment from the Millsboro (83) Fire Company.  It was reported to be vehicle accident with possible occupant entrapment.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 and Utility 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Squad 80 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignments were to prepare for vehicle extrication because of responding reports regarding the scene synopsis, traffic control with complete roadway closure between Layton Davis Road, Oak Orchard Road, and Mount Joy Road.  Additional activities would be coordinated upon authorization which included occupant extrication, fluid and debris recovery, and overall included mitigation.

Many additional resources were requested to the incident location including but not limited to DELDOT for extended traffic control management services, street sweeper for extensive clean up assignments, additional Delaware State Police for investigation, and the Delaware Medical Examiner.  The rescue assist compliment was cancelled while responding to the incident location.  

The Delaware State Fire Police initially coordinated the traffic control assignments before being released by DELDOT.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.
