On Thursday, November 6th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company responded to multiple emergency alerts which were identified above as:

  • Two automatic fire alarm incidents summarized as

    • Pot Nets Seaside – proper passcodes, changing of batteries and wishing to cancel

    • Chiefs Road – proper passcodes, construction onsite and wishing to cancel

  • One medical emergency – landing zone assignment which resulted in cancellation

  • One field fire incident resulting from improper burning or discarded cigarette.

The field fire incident resulted in mutual aid assistance from the Millsboro (83) Volunteer Fire Company with two brush truck companies responding to the incident location.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Brush 80, Engine 80 and Squad 80 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

All emergency response crews were assigned to fire suppression details to suppression the advancing fire throughout the field location.  Brush Truck ground-sweeps were utilized to fully saturate and suppress the cut corn husks after the fire containment was completed.

The Delaware State Fire Police assisted with traffic control and scene access for the duration of the incident.

The Delaware State Fire Marshall was apprised of the incident.
