Nature: Gas Leak
Location: 34444 Dog Wood Rd Pots Nets Bayside, DE 19966
On Saturday afternoon, October 25th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a gas leak incident inside the residence on Dogwood Road in the Pot Nets Bayside development off Long Neck Road.
Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80 and Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine 80 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.
Emergency response crew assignments included an exterior evaluation before commencing with the interior evaluation of the residential structure, residential evacuation was completed upon arrival of emergency response units and detector monitoring throughout the residential structure.
It was identified that the leak was associated with the HVAC freon.
Freon, a chemical often used in refrigerants and coolants, is a highly toxic gas. It is hazardous, in part, due to the gas being colorless and odorless (it can sometimes smell like freshly cut grass). This means that an individual could have no idea that they are in the presence of freon amounts.
All emergency response units were authorized to return to their respective quarters when complete with their respective assignments. The residential occupants were advised to contact a service repair entity.
