Location: 1000 Maine Avenue SW, Washington, DC 20024

On Monday evening, September 29th, a small cohort of Delaware Fire Service personnel attended the CFSI Fall Fire & Emergency Services Leadership Reception in Washington, DC.

This event was to recognize and acknowledge the sponsors of the Congressional Fire Service Institute and to express appreciation to the staff of CFSI for their endless dedication and devotion to the fire service.

Illustrated herewith are some photographs from the evening.

Congressional Fire Service Institute (CFSI):

The Congressional Fire Services Institute (CFSI) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan policy organization that works to educate members of Congress about the needs and challenges of the nation's fire and emergency services. Founded in 1989, CFSI serves as a bridge between the fire service community and policymakers in Washington, D.C., advocating for federal support on behalf of firefighters and other first responders.

Activities and functions:

  • Serves as an information source: CFSI provides objective and accurate information on fire service issues to Congress and federal agencies.

  • Consensus building: The organization works to develop unified positions on key issues impacting the fire and emergency services through its National Advisory Committee (NAC). The NAC is composed of representatives from over 35 national fire and emergency services organizations.

  • Hosts educational events: CFSI holds workshops, briefings, and seminars in Washington, D.C., to inform federal leaders on fire and life safety matters. The Annual National Fire and Emergency Services Symposium and Dinner draws thousands of participants from across the country.

  • Advocates for legislation and funding: CFSI advocates for federal programs and legislation, including grants like the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) and Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER).

  • Awards program: The institute hosts an annual awards program to honor individuals and organizations for outstanding leadership in fire safety education, firefighter health and safety, and the delivery of emergency medical services.

  • Supports the Congressional Fire Services Caucus: CFSI works closely with the Congressional Fire Services Caucus, one of the largest caucuses on Capitol Hill, to support fire service legislation. The caucus was founded in 1987 by former Congressman Curt Weldon
