Indian River and Coaling (AL) Fire Protection District Remember Apparatus Transitioning
An apparatus transition between the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company (Delaware) and the Coaling Fire Protection District (Alabama) was recently completed in September 2025. However, this is the third piece of equipment that has been transitioned to Coaling, Alabama:
-
September 2025 - Indian River sold its retired Engine #80-1, a 2001 Spartan 4-Guys pumper, to the Coaling district:
-
February 2014 – Indian River transferred its retired Engine #80-2, a 1992 Spartan 4-Guys pumper, to the Coaling district:
-
July 2008 – Indian River delivered its retired Incident Command Unit #80-10, a Chevrolet Suburban, to the Coaling district:
The decision to pursue the most recent apparatus transition was made in 2023, along with other apparatus updates based upon the age of the fleet. Indian River procured two new Pierce Saber pumpers and a new brush truck at an estimated cost of $2 million price tag for all units with estimated delivery dates for the new units in April 2024 (Engine 80), July 2025 (Brush 80), and September 2025 (Squad 80).
The Coaling Fire Protection District in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama, became the new owner of the 2001 pumper in September 2025 where it joined the former Engine 80-2 from Indian River.
Indian River is proud of its extended relationship that has been fostered with the Coaling Fire Protection District and continues to maintain hospitality and ongoing relations.
Illustrated herewith is some pictures of the apparatus.
