Nature: Gas Leak

On Monday, August 25th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a gas leak incident at the Inland Bays Wastewater Treatment Facility on Inland Bay Road. It was reported that construction workers struck a gas line near the dry building.

Emergency response apparatus from Indian River included Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine 80 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew coordinated an evaluation of the incident which identified a 2” gas line was ruptured by a backhoe digging in the area. 

There was an active gas leak from the 2” line.  The wind conditions were 6 mph from the west with no immediate damage of buildings in the area.  The gas company had been notified with a responder enroute.  First responders remained on location until the arrival of the gas company which secured the shut off of the gas line and then efforts for repairs were coordinated.

All emergency response units were authorized to return to their respective quarters after the line shut-off.
