Nature: Structure Fire

Location: Minnow Lane and Indian Cabin Creek Rd Pots Nets Bayside, DE 19966

On Thursday evening, August 14^th, the Indian River (80), Lewes (82) and Millsboro (83) fire departments were alerted for a residential structure on Indian Cabin Creek near Minnow Lane in the Pot Nets Bayside development. Additional emergency alerts included the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad and the Sussex County Paramedics. It was reported to a lightning strike incident causing a fire near the propane tanks and exterior of the residential structure.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine 80 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignments included an exterior and interior evaluation of the residential structure, evaluation of for extension into the crawl and walls of the structure, verification of propane utilities were shut-off, and overall included mitigation efforts.  Emergency response was downgraded to Indian River units.

It appears that a lightning strike initiated a brief fire near the propane utilities for the residential structure near the rear corner of the structure.  Efforts to suppress the incident were coordinated by the homeowner.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated scene access limitation for the duration of the incident.
