Nature: Vehicle Fire

Location: Indian Mission Rd. and Fishermans Rd., Millsboro, DE 19966

On Sunday, July 20^th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for vehicle fire incident on Indian Mission Road and Fishermans Road, north of John J. Williams Highway.  It was reported to be a vehicle in motion and started sputtering and then you could see flames.  Upon arrival of emergency first responders, the vehicle was fully involved with exposure concerns with overhead utility lines and utility pole.

Emergency response apparatus from Indian River included Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine 80 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.  The Mid Sussex Rescue Squad assisted with blocking the traffic.

Emergency response crew assignments included activation of 1¾’ fire suppression line to extinguish the fire, water supply operations, traffic control, notification of the utility service provider with pole numbers for evaluation and overhaul where needed.

It appears that a black Audi sedan was traveling north on Indian Mission Road when it caught fire.  The vehicle’s occupants were able to extricate the vehicle.  Numerous sources identified the incident and provided status updates with notification of fully involved vehicle fire.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control with the closure of Indian Mission Road for the duration of the incident.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.
