Nature: Vehicle Fire

Location: Legion Rd & Bay Farm Rd Millsboro, DE 19966

On Tuesday afternoon, June 30^th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle fire on Legion Road in the vicinity of Bay Farm Road.  It was reported to be excavator type equipment with the engine compartment involved.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80 and Brush 80-00 from the Oak Orchard facility as well as Engine 80-3 from the Long Neck facility.

Emergency response crews were assigned to evaluate and identify the source of the incident.  It was identified that the equipment operator utilized a fire extinguisher to quickly suppression the fire pending arrival of emergency response apparatus.

It appears that a tree clearing and mulching operation was conducting operations when an equipment’s engine compartment caught fire.  With quick thinking of the equipment operator, the incident was suppressed with minor damage to the equipment.
