On Sunday, April 21st, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for multiple residential automatic fire alarm incidents at the above locations.

Emergency response units from Indian River were Incident Command 80 from the Long Neck area and Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

All of these incidents were the direct result of culinary mishaps with proper passwords given to cancel the emergency incident.  These types of incidents are becoming very frequent in nature and are 100% preventable.

These alarms have become a significant concern for fire departments due to the impact upon public safety, firefighter safety, and the financial burden that it places upon fire departments making unneeded responses.

Indian River responds to all types of emergencies; however, automatic alarm calls, by far, place a burden on all fire departments the most.
