Nature: Carbon Monoxide Detector

Location: 30314 Pipit Ct Peninsula Lakes, DE 19966

On Sunday afternoon, March 10th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a carbon monoxide detector sounding in a residential structure on Pipit Court in the Peninsula Lakes development.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Engine #80-3 from the Long Neck facility and Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignments included a initial 360• evaluation of the exterior of the 1½ story residential structure to identify location of the utility service connections and an interior evaluation with gas detectors determining no gas meter reading son the first and second floors of the structure and heavy meter readings in the basement near the HVAC units.  Natural ventilation was requested on the “B” side of the structure.  Rescue 80 was assigned to stage at the fire hydrant at Piping Plover Drive and Pipit Court, sending crew up to the residential structure with an additional gas meter.

It was determined that the HVAC units were emitting CO meters which requested service shut off and natural ventilation as well as notifying the residential occupants to contact an HVAC repair constructor.

After natural ventilation and no additional meter reading were identified, the residential structure was turned backed over to the homeowner with information not to restart until repairs have been completed.

All units were permitted to return to their respective quarters.
