Nature: Structure Fire

Location: 32580 Long Spoon Way Baywood, DE 19966

Early Sunday morning, March 3rd, the Indian River (80), Lewes (82), Millsboro (83), Milton (85), and Dagsboro (73) fire companies were alerted for a residential structure on Long Spoon Way in the Baywood development off Long Neck Road.  It was reported to be a working structure fire with multiple calls.  Additional emergency alerts included the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad and the Sussex County Paramedics.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Tower 80 and Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility, Engines 80-1 and 80-3 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignments included fire suppression activities with exposure protection of the neighboring residential structures, establish a water supply by accessing nearby hydrants and laying  5” large diameter hose (LDH) to the scene, discontinuation of the utility services to the residential structure, incident size up with a 360 evaluation and other fire ground strategies.  An interior primary search was coordinated before all units were ordered out of the building to commence with an aerial master operation.

It appears the fire started in the garage area of the residential structure and quickly spread throughout the structure via the roofline causing significant damage to the entire structure.

The Rehoboth Beach (86) Fire Company provided a standby coverup assignment for Indian River during the incident.

There was one firefighter that required EMS evaluation at the incident location.

The Delaware State Fire Police provided traffic control assistance for the duration of the incident.

The Delaware State Fire Marshal is investigating.
