On Thursday, January 25th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a washdown (fuel spill) incident at Royal Farms on John J. Williams Highway.  It was reported that lady left her car unattended while pumping gas and the fuel pump did not shut off causing a fuel spill.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignments included verification that the emergency fuel shut-off was activated to shut off pumps, fuel absorbent was dispersed, and efforts to absorb the spill was completed.

It was determined that approximately 26 gallons of fuel was spilled onto the concrete and pavement and various precautions were taken to secure and contain the issue.  The store personnel assisted and notified to have an evaluation completed.

All apparatus were authorized to return to their respective quarters.
