Nature: Service Call-Fire – Broken Water Pipes – Multi-Residential Structure

Location: 33571 Windswept Dr., The Peninsula, DE 19966

On Tuesday morning, January 16th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a service call incident associated with broken water pipes inside the water of a multi-story residential building.  The water leak was located on a second floor condo unit which resulted in significant water damage and ceiling collapse of the first floor condo unit.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response units evaluated the incident, identifying a water pipe break in the upper ceiling of a utility room closet.  Requested the response of the public water utility service company.

It appears that a water pipe break in the upper ceiling of a utility room closet located in a second floor condo unit caused significant water damage to some of second floor condo units and substantial water damage to some of the first floor condo units.  The first units which were impacted did have ceiling collapse issues as well.  All electrical breakers and water utility services were shut off to the impacted units.

The homeowners’ association, property management association and water restoration companies were requested to respond to the incident.
