Nature: Structure Fire

Location: 24735 Nine Foot Rd Millsboro, DE 19966

Early Sunday morning, December 17th, the Delmar (74), Frankford (76), Georgetown (77), Gumboro (79), Indian River (80), Laurel (81), Millsboro (83), Millville (84), Selbyville (88), Roxana (90), Wicomico Stations 7 & 8, and Worcester 900 fire companies were alerted to assist the Dagsboro (73) Fire Company with a reported residential structure fire on Nine Foot Road.  Additional emergency alerts included the Sussex County Paramedics, the Delaware State Fire Police and many other mutual companies.

Initial arriving first responders reported heavy fire from doors and windows throughout an older two story style residential structure with reports of no one at the residential structure.

Emergency response crews coordinated a fire suppression attack from multiple aspects with elevated streams and numerous hand-lines which included resources from all of the aforementioned companies.  An extensive water supply shuttle was coordinated from the Gumboro Fire Company on the west side of the fire scene and from hydrants near the Royal Farms in Dagsboro as well as Millsboro for the east side of the fire scene.  Emergency response routes were impacted with the roadway closure of Nine Foot Road associated with highway construction.

The Indian River Volunteer Fire Company assisted with the incident with Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard facility assisting with the water shuttle operations and Engine #80-3 from the Long Neck facility provided a standby / cover up assignment at the Millsboro Fire Company before being relocated to the Dagsboro Fire Company as mutual aid companies’ assignment changed

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control with complete closure of Nine Foot Road in the designated fire ground area.

The Delaware State Fire Marshall is investigating.

Emergency response crews were on location for approximately 4 hours and 37 minutes.
