Nature: Structure Fire

Location: 25925 Lighthouse Lane Long Neck Village, DE 19966

Early Friday morning, December 8th, the Indian River (80), Lewes (82), and Millsboro (83) fire companies were alerted for a residential structure fire on Lighthouse Lane in the Long Neck Village development.  Additional emergency alerts included the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad, the Sussex County Paramedics, and various mutual aid partners for standby cover up assignments.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80 and Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Command 80 and Engine #80-3 from the Long Neck area as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.  The Dagsboro (73) Fire Company provided a stand-by cover up assignment for Indian River at Station #1 in Oak Orchard and was redirected to the incident location for manpower assistance.

Emergency response crew assignments included initial fire suppression activities, interior primary and secondary searches, water supply operations, ventilation, notification of utility service providers for discontinuation and overall incident mitigation efforts.

Initial arriving first responders identified a working structure fire on the “B-C” corner of the structure, smoke showing from all eaves of the structure, heavy fire in the rear, cars in the driveway with unknown status of occupants, requests for fire suppression and primary search efforts.  Extensive efforts to stop the advancement of the fire were coordinated; however, the fire was into the multiple roof and void space areas as well as the rear sections of the structure.  It was determined that the occupant(s) were not home at the time of the fire; however, a canine did perish within the structure.

The Delaware State Fire Police assistance with traffic control where needed.

The Delaware State Fire Marshall is investigating.
