Nature: Washdown (Fuel Spill)

On Sunday, October 15^th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for washdown incident at the Royal Farms on John J. Williams Highway and Mount Joy Road.  It was reported to be an incident where gasoline spiled (overflowed) from a vehicle’s gas tank onto the grounds.

Emergency response units from Indian River included the Rescue 80 and Utility 80-11 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-1 as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignments included fluid stabilization with application of stay dry absorbent to mitigate the incident. 

It appears that a grey Scion tC coupe was attempting to fill the vehicle while leaving it unattended causing it to overflow onto the ground.  Approximately 20 gallons of gasoline was lost.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control for the duration of the incident.
