Nature: Watercraft In Distress

Location: Off Irons Lane in the Indian River Bay

Coordinates:  38°35'27 and 75°8'35 Millville

 

On Sunday afternoon, August 27th, the Indian River (80), Dagsboro (73), and Bethany Beach (70) fire companies were alerted to assist Millville (84) with a water rescue incident in the Indian River Bay off Irons Lane.  Additional emergency alerts included:  DNREC Marine Police, United States Coast Guard – Indian River Squadron, the Delaware State Police Aviation Unit – Trooper 2, Sussex County Paramedics, as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Utility 80-8 with 80 Marine 1 and Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility, Brush 80-0 with 80 Marine 2 and Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility.  All

Emergency response crew assignments included preparation and launch of marine units.  Indian River marine units launched from the Pot Nets Bayside ramp near Paradise Grill to have an immediate access to the incident across the bay.  Apparatus remained at the launch site to assist with loading the vessels back onto their respective trailers.

It was reported to have a catamaran style vessel flipped over with two people in the water off Irons Lane in the Indian River Bay.  Another vessel was approaching and offered assistance prior to arrival of any emergency response units.  Vessels from DNREC, USCG, Marine 70, Marine 84, 80 Marine 2, and 80 Marine 1 did arrive in the vicinity of the incident before the incident was placed under control.

The Delaware State Fire Police provided assistance at the boat launch areas for the duration of the incident.
