On Wednesday evening, August 23rd at approximately 9:14 p.m., the Indian River (80), Millsboro (83), and Dagsboro (73) fire companies as well as the Sussex County Paramedics, Mid Sussex Rescue Squad, DNREC – Marine Police, the Delaware State Police Aviation Unit – Trooper 2 and the United States Coast Guard – Indian River Inlet Squadron were alerted for a water rescue incident off White House Beach in the Indian River Bay.  It was reported to be two kayakers yelling and possibly in distress.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Incident Command 80, Rescue 80 and Utility 80 with 80 Marine 1 responding from the Oak Orchard facility and Brush 80-0 with 80 Marine 2 and Engine 80-1 responding from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response units responded to their arranged launch points – 80 Marine 1 to Pot Nets Bayside, 80 Marine 2 to White House Beach, 83 Marine Units to Gull Point, and 73 Marine Unit to Vines Creeks with anticipation of further assignments.  Rescue 80 was assigned to assist 80 Marine 1 and Engine #80-1 was assigned to 80 Marine 2 at their respective launch points.  Incident Command responded to the White House Grove Circle area as did the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad.  Sussex County Paramedics were assigned to respond to the Pot Nets Bayside launch area.

It was determined that the kayakers were not in distress and did not need any assistance and all responding units were permitted to return to their respective quarters.
