Nature: Medical Emergency

City: Millsboro

On Friday, July 28th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted to assist the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad and the Sussex County Paramedics with a landing zone assignment.  The landing zone was designated to be in the area of River Road, Rosedale Road and Downs Landing Road.  The incoming aviation unit was Maryland Trooper 4 from the Maryland State Police.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility, Engine #80-1 and Brush 80-0 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignments included the establishment of the landing zone, traffic control with the closure of the designated roadway, and assistance with patient transfer from ambulance to aviation.

It appears that an elderly male subject suffered a fall, sustained a head injury and was not alert therefore aviation was requested.

The Delaware State Fire Police provided traffic control for the duration of the incident.

Engine #80-1 was released from the landing zone assignment to respond to a gas leak incident in the Captain’s Grant development near Oak Orchard.
