Nature: Outside Fire

On Wednesday evening, July 12th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for an outside fire in the vicinity of Harris Teeter Grocery Store off Bay Farm Road.
Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Brush #80-0 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police. Indian River’s Deputy Fire Chief responded directly to the incident location and identified a small area of mulch that needed wetting down and saturation.
Emergency response crew assignments included a single brush truck to saturate the area.
The incident was reported by a passing police officer and desired corrective action. The other responding apparatus was redirected to a higher priority alarm was received within the fire district.
Report Mulch Fires
If you see anything smoking in a landscape bed, put it out if you can and report it. If the burning material is not thoroughly wet or removed it can re-ignite.
